1956. Bengali. The second of the famous Apu trilogy by Satyajit Ray and considered one of his finest. The story picks up where Pather Panchali ends, with the family moving to Varanasi, where it is dogged by misfortune, returns to the village minus the father who has died. Apu grows into a young man, studies and goes to college in Calcutta, distancing himself from his lonely and rustic mother as he sees more of the world. It ends with her dying and Apu deciding to shift to Calcutta and complete his studies.
I loved it. Completed the trilogy this lockdown.
