Last Sunday while bowling at nets I focussed on a high release as opposed to pushing the ball through to get more pace on the ball. The immediate outcome was more bounce which is always disconcerting for the batsman. As far as pace was concerned, there is not much of a difference and when we push the ball through, we end up bowling a flat delivery which does nothing in the air or off it.
More importantly, after the high release, I experimented with keeping the follow through of my arm going fully. Most times we do not follow through fully after the release but this time I consciously kept the intent going.
Voila. The ball started doing things. It seamed, it cut and it bounced.
Release high. Keep intent to follow through. And watch the difference.
