A Visit to the Bansilalpet Stepwell

I have been meaning to visit the Bansilalpet Stepwell for a long time and finally decided that there was no time like now. I was at Gymkhana and decided to take the 2 km drive to Bansilalpet to check it out. I realised that Bansilalpet is a gated place, a village then with walls and gates. I drove right in and turned left and ended up near the Stepwell.

It being morning times there was no visitor other than me. I bought a ticket for 50 bucks and was told by the person at the gate that there were three galleries which explain the history of the stepwell, the way it was renovated by the GHMC and how it is now a place where events are held.

To the right of the entrance or east side was a nice lawn and an amphitheatre type of thing and the stepwell was to the left. I checked out the three galleries which had some lovely photographs of the stepwell and how it was cleaned up and made into what it is now, complete with plans and stuff. I got some nice pictures from the gallery on the first floor.

Then I walked down to the other side and went down to the stepwell. I could only go down a few steps and not to the sides etc but I got a good idea of it. Quite an accomplishment by the GHMC to bring this back to life. I could see fishes in the water in the tank.

They have events now at the stepwell and I am sure it must look pretty nice in the evenings with lights and all. I remember Taher had conducted an event here - of ghazals reading and stuff if I am right but I could not go.

Anyway, a nice experience. Good to visit. Go if you haven't.
