From there, we headed off to Charminar. Mukhtyar took us all inside and explained some interesting aspects about why it was where it was (on the intersection of the road to Bidar and Masulipatnam), what it signifies (perhaps the king's vow to commemorate the city's escape from the plague) and stuff like that. She showed us the possible figurehead of a cat (meant to scare the rats that brought the plague away), figures of some fantastic animal which appeared like a tiger, the story about why the pineapple was such a royal fruit ( rare and expensive in those days) and so on.

From the Charminar we hopped over to Nimrah which was crowded like crazy for tea and bun maska etc. Since tea was taking long we popped into Farasha cafe next to Nimrah where not a soul was around.

This cafe has mirrored walls and at one time was known as the 'kaanch ki hotel'. The mirror work if I remember right was designed by the same chap who designed it for Mughal-e-Azam. Anyway we heard from the unhappy waiters that the hotel was once grand but since the brothers split it had become a shadown of its old self. We had a chai and stepped out for the Nimrah chai.
