Thought for the Day - Judgment is too Much Focus on Others, Less on Yourself

Any irritation we fell is about a judgment we have, about ourselves or about someone else - mostly someone else. So next time you feel irritated, check who you have a judgment on.

Instead think of yourself - and what you can do for yourself. Fill up your life with things to do for yourself - making yourself the priority.

There's a lot to do for yourself you know, instead of worrying about others.

Expand Your Money Consciousness - A Lovely Online Workshop by Shobha Nargundkar

I attended this online workshop by Shobhs called 'Expand Your Money Consciousness' last week and it was great fun and learning as we all shared our money stories and experiences over a month. Some major takeaways for me were.

1. Where is your money going is how your money consciousness is - very little on myself. Apart from that some of the other insights that I remember are

2. It’s about the flow - receiving, holding and spending

3. Money is the power to kill an ant - we don’t have to do anything with it how much ever we get, just let it be without any pressure and use it when the ant bites

4. Spend on your self first - watch where your money is going

5. Watch how you are spending - the feeling

6. You must have it within you, not see it as separate to have it..

7. You don’t need anything else to receive 10x or 100x - just have to reorganize what we already have

8. If you don’t use it, if you deny yourself, it will find ways to go away where it’s needed

9. Maintain a good relationship with it.. like we do in any fun, growing relationship

10. Don’t have judgments about where, how, who, why etc…allow it to come with gratitude

11. You are bigger than money, you are the source and can create as much as you want…own that power

12. Giving attention to where it’s going gives a clue

13. The more adventurous you are, the more you attract so push boundaries little by little

14. Carry enough in your wallet to always feel rich

15. Watch words, phrases, actions….use them to empower, don't use them to negate .

These are what I remember .. and maybe some more. You ask can add your insights and practices too so it’s all there.

Switzerland - Movie

2021. Bengali. Cute move about a middle class family wanting to go to Switzerland to keep up their appearances. Very watchable.

A Lovely Throwback Cricket Picture - Thanks for Sharing CV

CV shared this lovely picture form 1986 - we had gone to play Inter-varsity cricket at Bangalore, representing Osmania University. DTS Prasad was our captain. I had just been dropped from the Ranji Trophy team and went on the varsity trip, disappointed and not knowing how to correct the loss in my bowling form (fixed mindset is what I know now). DTS was an old friend and we had a decent year playing for the varsity in the league championships (two big centuries that year - 158 that DTS got against SBI with Azhar and all, and a 156, I got against VST).

Anyway the team was like - DTS, Masood, Vidyuth, CV Anand, Iftekhar, Srinivas Chakravarthy, Ganesh, Jai Kumar, Ajmal Asad, Chetan Anand, Subba Rao - and i'd love to remember the others. Let me see who I am missing - Masood, me, Ajmal and Chetan went to play Vizzy at Durg later.

Me, CV, Chetan, Ifti and Jai Kumar

Anyway, we played from round one, having lost the first round the year before at Calicut, beat Kakatiya University first (no wickets), Dharwad University (got a 10 ball 36 with 4 sixes, three in an over, one off the backfoot that caused Vidyuth to say - old man, hitting sixes off the backfoot, and a knock that made Ganesh's girlfriends ask him who I was), one other game that I don't remember and then Madras in the semis.

CV was in good form and got a few fifties and so did Vidyuth. Madara had Robin Singh, who had also been dropped in exactly the same game that I had. A bouncer by Robin hit CV on the head and he was hospitalised while in the middle of another lovely innings. He'd have played South Zone if not for that injury and we would have played the finals perhaps but then Madras seized the initiative after that and we lost with three wickets.

CV got some nice pictures from that trip and I am so glad he shared them. Here are a couple.

Me, Ifti, Jai, Chetan and Vidyuth, padded up (check out his LaCoste t shirt)

Another time, we'd have beaten Madras - just too messed up then. I felt sorry for DTS who really wanted us to win. Lovely guy.

The Guide to the Perfect Family - Movie

2021. French. Nice take on current day's parenting - Netflix, food choices, how to bring up children, freedom, choice, organic. health...with so many choices and so much information...it's not going to be easy on anyone. There are moments when I went - hey 'I know that person' or 'I know how that's going to end'.

Interesting.

eCanteen Fundas - Managing Emotional Energy for High Performance

How to manage emotional energy for high performance - periodise emotional energy expenditure with recovery activities (walk, music, people - emotional energy replenishing activities) and you're on. To enhance emotional capacity push beyond the comfort zone (like stuff that makes you angry, don't avoid it but push into it, and then recover). You'll get more and more stable and resilient emotionally!

E-Canteen Fundas: Work hard, play harder: Why recovery activities are the key to longevity

I want to top the upcoming exams, bhaiyya,’ said Rahul. ‘But the stress is not letting me study.’

‘Yes, bhaiyya,’ said Rinku. ‘Is there a way to overcome emotional stress and engage fully?’

‘What works best for performance?’ asked Rakesh. ‘Fear, anger and sadness or pleasure, adventure and opportunity?’

‘No brainer,’ said Rahul. ‘High energy-positive states work best. But anxiety isn’t allowing me to focus. How can I get out of this?’

‘By flipping channels,’ smiled Rakesh. ‘Work-recovery is our mantra for maintaining high energy. So when you sense low-energy emotions taking over, it means you overspent your emotional energy. Flip channels to recovery and renewal activities — walking, reading or yoga — whatever is deeply enjoyable for you. The key is to make renewal activities the priority.’

‘If renewal activities are a priority, then work?’ asked Rinku.

‘Your work performance improves with deeper emotional recovery activities,’ said Rakesh. ‘Giving recovery activities priority helps you derive a sense of balance and joy in your work.’

‘Wow,’ said Rahul. ‘I thought such activities distracted me from work and avoided them.’

‘Too much or too little recovery causes an imbalance, so balance your work-recovery ratio,’ said Rakesh. ‘About 45-60 minutes of focused work followed by 15-20 minutes of deep recovery activity is good. To increase emotional energy capacity, work on the ‘muscles’ that support our emotional energy frame — self-confidence, empathy, trust and so on. Push past existing limits in and then renew with recovery activity to expand emotional capacity.’

‘If we strengthen these areas we should be in a good emotional space, right bhaiyya?’ asked Rahul.

‘It helps to begin with,’ said Rakesh. ‘But it’s not all black and white. There’s a term ‘anacoluthia’ used by stoic philosophers which means that all virtues are entailed. There is no right virtue to choose because they balance one another. Author Tony Schwartz in his TEDx Talk says honesty without compassion is cruelty — indicating that honesty works when tempered with compassion. Or confidence without humility is arrogance, so temper confidence with humility. We access optimum emotional energy when we embrace opposites, knowing both are okay. Don’t choose one over another to be fully engaged emotionally.’

‘Thanks,’ said Rinku. ‘I’ll work on making emotional recovery activities a priority and balancing my emotions.’

Pro Tip: To manage emotional energy for high performance, find energy recovery activities and make them a priority. Practice holding opposite emotions to access emotional energy for full engagement.

GHMC - Jai Ho!

Saw this nice visual the other day! GHMC workers crammed like sheep and being transported.
