A Wodehouse after a long time and it gave me as much delight as I expected it to. I found myself diving headlong into the world of Blandings but this time with a bunch of new characters - Lord Ickenham (Uncle Fred), Pongo Twistleton, Pott the detective, Uncle Alaric, Sir Roderick Glossop and so on and so forth.
Starts with Pongo losing money on some caper and having creditors running after him. He reaches out to his friend Horace who is loaded and who is in love with Pongo's sis Valerie, only to be rebuffed. Valerie is miffed with Horace who hires a private eye to spy on her and diverts her attentions to one Ricky Gilpin who wants to set up onion soup bars and is looking to raise capital. In all this Lord Emsworth has a visitor who wants to steal the Empress and well we have Lord Ickenham to the rescue with his cool mind and crazy ideas.
As with any Wodehouse book we go into a million impossible situations, there's romance, their's intrigue, there's help at hand and there's some mischief but in the end all's well and that ends well. This one had a lot more characters than I could remember so got a little confused but some brilliant characters such as Mustard Pott the detective who was an ex-bookie and a proper con man if ever there was one. Lots of potential there.
Can see 'Right Ho Jeeves' on the shelf and will pick it up soon.
