Acts of Love - Birthday Cards

Went looking for cards to send to Anjali for her birthday recently. Of course I did not know if people still sold birthday cards - so I went to the one shop I knew that sold cards etc - Fantasies in Maitri Vanam. Fantasies had unfortunately shut shop but there was a small Archies shop open nearby and they had some cards.

I looked and found Daughter cards, some witty ones - none that really fit the bill - but still picked them up just for the experience. I am not sure if it was a great experience for her but for me it certainly was - because it brought back memories of how I would stop at this shop near Patny while returning from college which had this brilliant parking space, this open area and some lovely cards - forget the name though (I suspect it was used to shoot in one of Mohana Krishna's films).

The entire process was something - picking the right card (some were great at it - Ranjan for one), writing the appropriate message in it (I think I was pretty good there), sending it off in time so it would reach the person just in time for the birthday - it was a carefully orchestrated act. The whole idea was to give a moment of pure pleasure to the receiver, someone you cared about. Someone who will love the idea that you cared enough to do all that. It's fully worth it. Even if it is for a moment.

It is an Act of Love. Thoughtfulness to me is an act of love. Sending a card is an act of love. Cards don't get lost like messages, like mails. They remain physically somewhere, reminding one of the love someone felt for them sometime. Someday when it shows up, it will bring a faint smile back, a memory that someone cared enough to do all that, and that somehow we may have forgotten what we shared but it was so real then. It all comes back.

Greeting cards are an expression of love. More so in this age.
