Hyderabad by Walk - Musi Riverfront - Jummerat Bazar

We walked down the road from Osmania General Hospital in the direction of Purana Pul. Several interesting spots came up - for people to sit perhaps - have no idea how old. Anyway this walk offered a good view of the magnificent High Court Building. We kept walking onwards and came to the next bridge which had tons of pigeons on it - the Musallam Jung bridge. It looked fantastic.

Sit outs

We stopped for a chai at Patil's - good tea. There is a statue of Prithviraj Chauhan here. A temple to the left. I was keen to get on to the bridge with the pigeons (which I found later is called Musalam Bridge) but Sunnie cast a look down the road and said - that's Jummerat Bazar. He said that it operates every Thursday and he once came to look for a stolen bicycle with a friend and they found it here. Of course they had to buy it back I am sure.

The road was filled with traders showing their wares on both sides of the road - electronic goods, TVS, radios, record players, clothes, coin, antiques, spares, tools, kitchen ware, tyres.loads and loads of stuff. People thronged the place and it was difficult to walk even at that early hour.

Jummerat bazar

Jummerat Bazar is one of the oldest weekly markets in Hyderabad. It is also known as the chor bazar because of the dubious ownership of items sold. Around 500 traders set up shop there every Thursday, many of them second or third generation. Its been around for more than 70-80 years they say.

People shopping

One attraction apparently is an auction at two stalls where people can bid and gets stuff for pretty cheap - bed sheets, pillow cases, mattresses, gadgets etc. We ploughed on past a cute Gandhi statue (forgot to click that), past a mosque to the right and then the Purana Pul itself!
