1975.
After 'Shot in the Dark', Peter Sellers returns as Inspector Clouseau with his exaggerated accent, pompous manner and bungling ways, to catch a mysterious thief who has stolen the Pink Panther from heavy security. Clouseau goes about in his bungling ways to catch Sir Charles Litton (played by Christopher Plummer), the Phantom, who he suspects, and uncovers the truth thereby earning himself a greater reputation. His boss Dreyfus however loses his mind as he becomes obsessed with killing Clouseau (and accidentally kills the real villains and saves Clouseau).
