Turab Lakdawala called me and said they had this Women's premier League team and could I speak a few words to the team before the tournament. I learned that JITO ((Jain Intl Trade Orgn) was organising a women's league called JLPL (Hyd Ladies Premier League) and Tempest Advt was sponsoring one team - The Tempest SuperCats - tagline 'Bachke Rehna'. Catchphase - We don't meow, we roar. The players are all in the age-group of 28-50, married, mostly housewives. It seemed a great way to motivate them to push themselves, enjoy the spirit of competing and playing and discovering new facets to themselves.
I didn't speak though! |
The date was December 7, 2024 and I was supposed to land up at SMS Arena Box Cricket on Necklace Road. Come 7th morning and I found that my voice was gone and all I could do was croak so sent an SOS to Vijay Mohan Raj who graciously agreed at such short notice.

The Tempest SuperCats |
We went to the Arena, met Turab and Rekha Oswal, watched the ladies practice for a bit and then Vijay spoke a few words before we launched their website online. The ladies were all enthusiastic, fired up and were giving their all while playing, keeping the spirit of enjoyment top most while keeping an eye on winning. Something about cricket at this level that makes it so innocent and fun.

We interacted with the players, Vijay shared some tips and then we were off. All the best Tempest SuperCats. Thanks Turab for inviting me and Vijay and for the lovely gift of a potted plant.
