Anjali - Sona's Recovering Well

She still drags her injured foot which is heartbreaking to see because she was such a feisty one but she has got some spirit back. She moves around, even plays some mischief.

Anjali takes her medications seriously and puts her drops, medicines with the ease of an expert. She made me drive her to the pet pharmacy to get some new medicine because Sona is anaemic. We got the medicine and Anjali administered it.

A few more days and she should be good to go for repairs on her foot and hopefully she will make a full recovery considering she is so small.

Also, efforts are on to have them adopted by someone. Someone with a farm would be ideal I guess. I can see two names popping up before me and both shall be asked tomorrow!

Meanwhile Akela and Zor continue to live in the frontyard and Zor makes piteous noises in an attempt to come inside. Once inside she fights with Sona so she is banished immediately.

...

Akela did something amazing today. I have heard of dogs and their affection for their masters but I saw it today and it warmed the cockles of my heart (whatever they are). Anjali got into the car as we were to go to her school to submit her homework and also to buy medicine for Sona. Akela came racing out behind Anjali. And when I started the car she started circling it and barking. She would not let her mistress go (Like i was taking her away).

And then she followed us to the Main Road, and we got worried because she kept coming. And suddenly we lost sight of her and Anjali got off to check on her. She found Akela going back to the colony after coming out this far to follow her mistress. It was such a lovely sight to see her trying to protect her, or be with her.

I noticed that the other day, when Anjali and I walked to the store nearby and Akela came with us all the way and returned with us. Anjali has her protection now!

Anjali - Sona In an Accident!

Just when it appeared that the worst had passed came this sad incident. The pups and Akela go about foraging for food and I do see them in places where they appear vulnerable - sitting in the middle of the road, sleeping under cars and so on.

Sona sleeping it off in Anjali's room

I woke up to loud yelping and it sounded really serious. Anjali had taken off like a hare as she always does when she perceives danger to the pups and she returned with Sona in her arms. She sat and checked it for injuries and said there was no apparent injury. Sona, poor mischievous Sona, was apparently run over by a car (the blighter did not stop and sped away). It appeared that it damaged its hind leg.

Sona was looking very forlorn. She would not move from her place and it was clear that her left hind leg was immobile. She lay down, shivering with the trauma and pain, not whining and crying out. Anjali recalled that she was the only one who had not whined when they got their vaccine shots. By evening, it was clear she needed help. A vet was found by Shobhs and we set out to Nagarjuna Hills where the vet was located.

I stayed in the car while Shobhs and Anjali went with Sona, Anjali carrying her as carefully as she always does. Apparently the doctor confirmed that her leg was fractured after taking an X ray, but they could not do any procedure because she appeared anemic and they feared there could be internal hemorrhaging. A blood test was done and we were sent back with some medicines awaiting the reports tomorrow.

Sona is sleeping in Anjali's room tonight. She looks a bit better, walking a bit as well. Hoping she makes a full recovery. Get well soon Sona.

And Anjali, they are lucky to have you.

Today's Special - Movie

2009. English. Feel-good movie about a sous chef who doesn't get the promotion he desires and resigns. He finds himself running his father's little Indian restaurant when his father fall sick instead of going to Paris to stage with some celebrity chefs. Enter a mysterious Indian taxi driver who has been everywhere and knows everything and everyone (a bit like Zorba) and he teaches Samir (sous chef) the secret sauce of life. All's well and that ends well! Very easy watch!

Sights on the Morning Run (and some)

The other day I saw this strange sight. A van carrying fish seemed to have dropped some cargo. A couple of people were busy loading the broken crates closest to the pick up van. A little distance behind lay another lot of fish, from the broken crates.

Picking up cargo

I never saw something like this before. I heard of a time when a truck carrying liquor was involved in an accident and how people raided its contents. Nothing like that happened here - no man or animal went to the fish. The man came and started picking them up. They were not moving.

...

Vasu and I stopped for a chai at Somajiguda and bang in the middle of the city we see this bull and cow, part of a cattle shed. Vasu told me that the cowherds owned the big buildings on the road front but retained the cattle shed at the back.

Cow and bull

I head similar stories in Mumbai - like a pan shop owner outside a huge building at Worli they say owns that land. I am not sure but its quite probable considering Mumbai has some famous beggars who own multiple flats and cars and stuff.

...

I am amazed at how callous and casual our authorities are when it comes to safety and human life. These days they lay roads with some machines that lay a thick layer of road and leaves a one foot. sharp drop at the edge. Now it lays one side of the road and the other is laid later. Until then the edge is left as it is, open for people to fall off and die. The edge itself is so sharp that even by grazing against it, you'll sustain serious injury. I first saw this in SR Nagar where many must have suffered injuries (my car got stuck there once). The other day I saw it at Chilkur village. Now I had seen this five months ago and it is still the same. I wonder if there are any statistics of people who fell, injured themselves, or even died thanks to this casual manner in which our authorities work. If you ask me, they should pay for it, not just costs but also for negligence.

Imagine driving on this road at night and falling off.

A New Experiment

So I decided that I am not too comfortable buying stuff for myself with no reason and wanted to change that and see if I change anything on the outside with that. So the next ten days I decided to spend on myself a minimum of Rs. 200 every day- purely on stuff I want or like and purely for myself.

So far my purchases have included

1 Bare Essentials T shirt

2 pairs of shorts from Decathlon

2 books from Amazon (Egonomics and Meditations)

It's been easy so far and I am enjoying it. 7 more days to go!

Taj Mahal - Movie

2015. French film. A family from France comes to India because the father has work - he is an engineer and has come on contract for two years. While staying at the Taj in Mumbai, the 26/11 terrorist attacks happen. The 18 year old daughter is left behind in the room while the parents go out when the attacks happen. Will she survive the attack?

Watch and find out. Mumbai is shown nicely.

eCanteen Fundas - Develop this Key Ability - Deserve-ability!

If there's one ability you're missing despite your talent - its this!

E-Canteen Fundas: Believe you deserve it and keep 'em coming

Pro Tip: Along with hard work and the right processes, work on deserve-ability. When you believe you deserve the best and expect it, your capacity to receive good expands

Ankur didn’t get selected for the college basketball team,’ said Rinku. ‘He puts so much effort into his game. He so deserved to be picked.’

‘Manish got selected instead,’ said Rahul. ‘He’s isn’t half as good. He doesn’t deserve to be on the team.’

‘But Manish made it and Ankur didn’t,’ said Rakesh. ‘Which tells us it’s not just skill and hard work. Ankur’s missing an important ability that Manish has.’

‘What is that, bhaiyya?’ asked Rahul.

‘Deserve-ability — your belief about what you deserve,’ said Rakesh. ‘Despite great talent, hard work and doing everything right, if you feel you don’t deserve success, you won’t get it. On the other hand, someone with lesser talent but a stronger belief that he deserves everything, will get it.’

‘That’s crazy,’ asked Rinku.

‘How, bhaiyya?’ ‘Because we don’t get what we deserve, we get what we expect,’ said Rakesh.

‘Not getting tickets after waiting in the line, getting the worst seats or others getting ideal partners and then, we’re left with ‘why-does-it-always-happen-to-me’ stories. Familiar?’

‘True, bhaiyya,’ said Rahul. ‘Very unfair.’

‘It’s not unfairness,’ laughed Rakesh.

‘It is our low deserve-ability at play. The fact is, we can’t handle the good even if it comes to us — opportunity, success or people. Our low deserve-ability energy shows up like a sign around our neck saying ‘I don’t deserve this, I don’t want this’. We find ways to miss out even if we were selected, simply because we believe we don’t deserve any good.’

‘You’re right,’ said Rinku. ‘Ankur got selected last time but injured himself and missed out. But why would anyone do that?’

‘Our old beliefs and experiences unknowingly influence our deserve-ability,’ said Rakesh.

‘But now that we’re aware, we must improve our deserve-ability. The higher our deserve-ability, the more good we allow into our life. For each of your hard-luck stories, ask yourself honestly — do I really believe I deserve it?’

‘Bhaiyya, how can we improve our deserve-ability?’ asked Rahul.

‘By expecting the best outcomes in every situation because you deserve it,’ said Rakesh. ‘Change your ‘won’t-happen’ beliefs and selftalk. Act like you deserve the best. Push past your undeserving zone and do little things that make you feel deserving — ask for extra helpings or take the best seats first. Be seen. Be heard. With practice, your deserve-ability improves.’
